It seems that there are very few people who have lost weight and successfully kept it off. Many diet books argue that you need to not think of it as a diet bu a lifestyle change and then it will be successful. That does make sense but I know no person who has been on a diet and kept the weight off. There are a few diet 'gurus' who have done so but their profession depends on them remaining slim and that is a pretty strong motivation.
I have lost weight on numerous occasions and put it back on again eventually. They say that yo-yo dieting is really bad for you but I am not sure whether it better to yo-yo diet or let your weight escalate until you are very obese. Obviously neither should be the way but it just does not seem possible to keep the determined attitude up.
I have decided that I would like to get down to a nice small clothes size - hopefully a size 12 and buy some nice clothes. I am hoping that having to stay slim, to fit in them will be motivation for me. I have a few clothes, at the moment, that are too small for me but they are not that nice, so I am not motivated to be able to fit in them.
I would love to know other peoples opinions on this and what motivated you to keep the weight off.

How to Keep Weight Off

For me, keeping a busy social life and being very active in all types of activities like roller blading, biking, and sometimes just going out dancing keeps me honest.
Also, the fact that everyone knows that I'm "The Fitness Diva", because that is my profession, (I'm a full time exercise instructor and personal trainer, and also run a couple of activity groups) keeps me somewhat accountable. I keep high expectations and standards for myself, and those around me kind of do too! ;)
Those tend to slip a bit in the winter, though, and I will put on about 10 to 15 lbs each winter season. When the spring comes, I become more active and take it off.
It's just a natural cycle, and most people will go through that.
Maintaining the same weight year long is difficult unless you restrict your caloric intake and don't miss ANY exercise 365 days a year. Who can do that?
I think that as long as you stay with a 10 lb range of your "perfect" weight, you shouldn't worry too much about it.
Once you start inching past 20+ over your ideal weight, then you need to jump on it and get to work.
The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to take it off.
