Update

I am back on track today and thinking hard about my health goals. I started off by losing weight because I wanted to be healthy and I was overweight. I am now a healthy weight for my height but I would like to weigh less - partly to give me a buffer so if I do put on a bit, I will not be overweight and partly because I think that I would look nicer if my tummy and hips were slimmer. I am really pleased with my progress so far and someone commented on how slim I looked today, which was very flattering.

I have been thinking about what sorts of things I have been eating and know that I need to cut out the crisps and chocolate and make sure that I have enough healthy fats and a balanced diet. I know that I am getting enough fruit and veg but am not sure about everything else.

After a few days of not really sticking to calorie counting or healthy eating, my weight is now 10 stone 9.6 pounds. I am reasonably pleased with this and aim to keep my calories fairly low but eat enough to try to stop me craving sweet and salty foods so perhaps go back to 1200. I know that I want to be around 10 stone and to maintain that weight I will need to eat about 1500 calorie a day, so if I aim to never go over 1500 but to stay between 1200 and 1500, then hopefully I can learn to be healthier and eat sensibly and lose weight more slowly.

Do Thin People Eat?

I have been having a few days off being strict with my eating as it was that girly time of the month! Yesterday I was looking at this woman in a queue in front of me and she must have been a size 10. She had what I felt was a perfect body size and shape. It got me to wondering how on earth people can become his size and keep it up. Does it take a lifetime of starving and hard exercise? Do think people just not eat at all? I know that I eat more than quite a few people but sometimes I wonder whether there is another way to remain thin apart from eating tiny amounts of food.

Cookie Diet

Dr. Sanford Siegal's COOKIE DIET™

Losing weight by eating cookies? Sounds like a great idea to me!! But how does it work? The cookies contain an appetite suppressant which helps you to control your eating. I have never tried using one of these to lose weight and it does sound like an interesting idea. Feeling full could certainly help reduce snacking and having meal replacement cookies could be a lovely alternative to piles of salad and vegetables for those who do not like this sort of food. Although it is not really healthy eating, it could be a really good solution for people with a sweet tooth who need a weight loss solution.

How to Keep Weight Off

It seems that there are very few people who have lost weight and successfully kept it off. Many diet books argue that you need to not think of it as a diet bu a lifestyle change and then it will be successful. That does make sense but I know no person who has been on a diet and kept the weight off. There are a few diet 'gurus' who have done so but their profession depends on them remaining slim and that is a pretty strong motivation.

I have lost weight on numerous occasions and put it back on again eventually. They say that yo-yo dieting is really bad for you but I am not sure whether it better to yo-yo diet or let your weight escalate until you are very obese. Obviously neither should be the way but it just does not seem possible to keep the determined attitude up.

I have decided that I would like to get down to a nice small clothes size - hopefully a size 12 and buy some nice clothes. I am hoping that having to stay slim, to fit in them will be motivation for me. I have a few clothes, at the moment, that are too small for me but they are not that nice, so I am not motivated to be able to fit in them.

I would love to know other peoples opinions on this and what motivated you to keep the weight off.

Diet Pills

In the past I have considered using diet pills to help me to lose weight. I thought that if I was working hard on a calorie controlled diet, that taking some pills to give me extra help would be good. I spoke to my pharmacist about them and she explained a bit about them and put me off using them.

She said that a lot of the pills contain green tea extract which is supposed to speed metabolism. I was already drinking quite a bit of green tea, so felt that this was not necessary - also with low blood sugar, it is better to have a slower metabolism as the blood sugar is more stabilized. Some of the pills contain caffeine to act as a diuretic and speed metabolism. I find that when I am dieting I seem to need the loo more often anyway and caffeine really messes with my blood sugar levels so I was not interested in these. There are also some pills which have a laxative effect. I cannot understand the use of these. I can understand that they might make you lose a few pounds fast but surely they will not continue to have an effect unless they work really well and then you would be always running to the loo, I didn't fancy that at all. Other pills contain fat burners, but there does not seem to be that much evidence that they work that well.

I therefore decided that it was healthier to avoid these things and just let the weight disappear naturally.

Help, I am Hungry!

I have just had a substantial snack but I am still hungry. I am desperately trying not to reach for the crisps! I have found a few ways which can help to stop the hunger pangs. The first is to eat something! Obvious I know! I try to only eat a small amount to stop the hunger but not to fill me up, this can be very hard if I have already had a lot of calories in the day. I tend to have a drink. I will have a hot marmite drink if I want something savoury or a coffee with sweetener if I want something sweet. I often find this is enough to fill me up and get rid of the hunger pangs.

How to Lose Weight

I was reading a book yesterday about losing weight and it was based around a few basic principles:

Diets do not work
Just eat when you are hungry
Give in to your cravings but just have small amounts.

It interested me as it explained that if you only eat when you are hungry and eat what you desire, you are less likely to overeat. It said that if you try to be good and resist your cravings then you will end up eating lots of different foods because you want to get that food you are craving and may end up eating more calories than you may have done had you had what you were craving. It then said if you have what you are craving you are likely to be satisfied after having just a little bit anyway. Now this bit I found interesting. If I buy a bar of chocolate and the first mouthful is enough, I still eat the rest of the bar, I seem incapable of resisting.

Another problem I have with these rules is that because I get low blood sugar, I have to eat regularly. I am not often hungry but often get low blood sugar and if I let my blood sugar get low, I feel unwell. I have to eat before it gets low to stay well and therefore have to eat every few hours. This is why I personally find counting calories is good, I can make sure that I have lots of smaller snacks and meals.

Update

I was disappointed when I weighed yesterday and found that my weight had gone up to 10 stone 8.6 pounds despite me eating carefully the day before. Yesterday I was at my Mums house so I had little control over what I ate. I did eat a lot of fruit and vegetables but also roast potatoes, apple crumble and custard, chocolate, crisps, bread and butter and a cookie. I was pleased this morning when I had only gone up to 10 stone 9 pounds. i am determined to get my weight down to 10 stone 7 pounds by the weekend.

More Weight lost!

I was anxious this morning when I weighed. I ate well all day but about midnight my son woke up and was hungry.I could tell he had low blood sugar so we went to the kitchen and he had some buttered toast and a drink of milk. I had low blood sugar too so I had a small bowl of museli and a bit of his left over toast. I have not put this on the eating plans as I have no idea which day it would count in - as it was after midnight but I weighed afterwards. I am guessing it should have gone in yesterdays.

I get low blood sugar when it is hot weather and we were outside a lot yesterday in the sunshine. we did a lot of walking which probably helped the weight loss. Anyway when I weighed this morning I was 10 stone 8.0 pounds which was fantastic!

My weight is back down to 10 stone 9.4 pounds so I am nearly as light as I was before my naughty weekend of eating out and birthday cake! I am hoping that I can keep it off this weekend. Weekends tend to be the hardest part as we are more likely to eat out. We are going to a fete on Saturday but I will do a cooked lunch before we go and we should be home in time for a sandwich or something later so there should be no excuse to eat badly.

I have been thinking about my next weight target and I would have loved to have reached 10 stone 7 pounds by the weekend, but as it is Thursday already I think I really need to aim for it by next weekend.

Regrets...

Well it has been a busy few days. We have been out and about, eating lunch out on several occasions and having birthday scones with jam and cream. Interestingly, normally I would be able to cope with this but the last few days I have really noticed the effects of overeating. I have had a tummy ache on going to bed where I was just too full. I felt heavy and lethargic where I was eating unhealthy, fatty foods. I am actually looking forward to eating some lovely fruit and vegetables today and feeling lighter, more energetic and cleansed.

And my weight gain...was over 3 pounds. So I am now back up to 10 stone 12.6 pounds. Has I really enjoyed my indulgence I would fell happier about the weight gain but looking back, it was not that good. The first couple of scones were nice, the first half of pizza and the chips were not as good as the ones I make myself. I really need to remember that I can make healthier and tastier food than a lot of restaurants....

Tips on Weight Loss

- Try not to be greedy, remember left overs can always be enjoyed tomorrow rather than gobbled today
- Try to increase the amount of exercise you do
- If you feel hungry, have a drink. You may find the hunger goes away
- Do not let cravings go on too long as you are more likely to have a big binge, just have a small amount of what you fancy
- Do not think of it as a temporary diet but as a permanent lifestyle change or else the weight will go back on
- Try to find someone who will lose weight with you - a bit of competition can really help
- Find ways of rewarding yourself that are not food based
- Try to experiment with new ways to flavour foods so that you do not get bored
- Take pleasure in admiring your slimmer look and fitting into smaller clothes
- When you lose some weight, show off about it. You deserve to!

Weight Loss!

I am now 10 stone 9.2 pounds which is great. I am afraid that I will put on weight today though. I managed to resist having pancakes for breakfast - I cooked them for my husband and the children and just nibbled at one. I had my usual porridge but I have a large picnic ready for lunch time and with cheese sandwiches, quorn eggs, crisps, fruit and fruit juice I am prepared for putting on some weight. I will have to take a football with us to kick around or something to try to burn some off!

Lose Weight without a Diet

I have recently seen an article which claims that weight gain is not so much to do with what we eat but to do with stomach plaque. I am not sure how true it is, but thought it was worth sharing in case anyone fancied looking into it a bit more.

Weight Gain....

As I suspected, I put on weight after eating scones that I made with the children and then going to my Mums yesterday. My weight this morning was 10 stone 11 pounds, which is very disappointing. I know I should have been more careful and could have eaten a lot less but I did enjoy it, so at least was something. I just have to work hard again before the weekend to see if I take some off before we have a picnic with friends on Sunday and a meal out on Monday (and potentially eating out quite a bit during that week).

Today's Weight

This morning I weighed exactly 10 stone 10 pounds. I am so happy with how things are going. I can fit comfortably into most of my clothes now and I have realised that in the 68 days that I have been dieting, I have lost 1 stone and 1 pound which is an average of 1.5 pounds a week which is a pretty good amount. Obviously it would be fantastic to wave a magic wand and lose all the weight at once but health experts do say that 1-2 pounds a week is a safe way to lose weight. I hope that the steady progress will help me to keep the weight off. my weight was 12.5 stone last summer so I have lost almost 2 stone in a year which is great and I feel so much better for it - I even opened my coat in town today and was not embarrassed that the size of my tummy made me look pregnant.

Back on target

My weight is back to 10 stone 10.8 pounds now which is great. I was looking at my favourite trousers yesterday and hopefully I should be able to fit in them again soon which will be really great! I might even treat myself to something nice to wear soon.

Vegetable Lasagne

50g lasagne sheets
2 bell peppers
2 onions
1 courgette
6 small mushrooms
1 tsp sun-dried tomato paste
1 tsp vegetable stock powder
125g grated cheese
1/2 tbsp flour
100ml milk

Peel and chop one onion and also chop a pepper and courgette. Put in a microwavable bowl, adding 4 tbsp water and cook for one minute bursts until soft. Put into a blender (with the cooking liquid) with the sun-dried tomato paste and stock powder and blitz until smooth. Put the milk and flour in a saucpan over a low heat and whisk. Cook until it comes to the boil and is smooth. Chop the vegetables and put each into a separate microwavable dish with a tbsp of water and cook for one minute each.

Now assemble the dish. Put some of the vegetable sauce on the bottom of an oven proof dish and put some lasagne on top. Then layer up with vegetables and lasagne, making sure that there is a layer of vegetable sauce each side of each lasagne sheet. Once you have finished pour the white sauce over the top and sprinkle the cheese on the top. Cook in a preheated 180 degree oven for 30 minutes.

The dish is about 570 calories and serves two (small portions).

diet pills, they also have a range of anti-aging skincare products. These products would be useful to dieters as losing weight can make your wrinkles show up more. They have a range of fast weight loss pills which can help to accelerate weight loss when things begin to get a bit tedious with the dieting. These help weight loss by suppressing the appetite, reducing body fat and improving the metabolism and they claim that the effects are long lasting, meaning that you will not put the weight back on after you stop taking them.

Weight Gain Again!

I knew that I was likely to gain weight yesterday after making a pizza, eating some cake, eating so much in the evening that I thought I was going to burst and doing no exercise. I put on exactly one pound which means I went up to 10 stone 11.8 pounds. I am working hard at it today though as I do not want this to be like my next target - where it took ages before I could move below it.

Today's Weight

My weight stayed the same. I was hoping to have lost a bit more as I am baking today as I have visitors for lunch. I will just have to be very careful in the amount that I eat!
